Barbara Barzansky, PhD is Secretary of the American Medial Association (AMA) Council on Medical Education and Assistant Secretary of the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. Dr. Barzansky received a PhD degree in developmental and cell biology from the University of California-Irvine and a master's degree in health professions education from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She had been a faculty member in the Department of Anatomy at the Medical University of South Carolina and the Department of Medical Education (formerly Center for Educational Development) at the University of Illinois at Chicago before joining the AMA.
Dr. Barzansky's recent research interests have focused on the effects of the changing health care environment, especially the growth of managed care, on medical schools/teaching hospitals as institutions and on the educational program for medical students and resident physicians.
