The Committee fully supported the final version of the GMER document and made suggestions to its final format, way of its dissemination and translation to other languages. Discussion after presentation of Professor Huang Jie-Fu on the forthcoming reforms of Chinese medical education stressed that the planned assessment of graduates' competencies will help to introduce reforms with impact on quality of medical education. The Committee fully supported presented by Drs Schwartz and Wojtczak an outline of planned preparatory activities related to implementation of GMER in China.

Considering cooperation with the WFME, it was said that although the WFME and the IIME projects are both aiming at the improvement of the quality of medical education, they differ very substantially in conceptual design and should not be merged at that stage of development.
